One of my favorite games ever is Mega Man 2 (see above video). So, I am thrilled to announce that after more than ten years of retirement, the original Mega Man character is back in the forthcoming Mega Man 9 for the Nintendo Wii’s WiiWare. A recent Nintendo Power magazine detailed the new Robot Masters and published many screen captures that prove that this Mega Man is definitely in the 8-bit NES genre complete with old-school graphics and an original Mega Man inspired soundtrack. Mega Man 9 is set to be released in September. I can’t wait!

So, you want to try the online gaming with your friends, but you’re not into the Halo or the WoW type gaming (i.e. your rig is too slow). Oh, and you love the classic, retro games systems such as the Super Nintendo. I hear ya’, I’m pickin’ up what your puttin’ down. Here’s what you need to do: Continue reading ‘SNES online gaming’
Procrastinated long this project I have. Enjoy the old video games I do. Build an arcade cabinet that plays classic arcade games I will. Help me with this project my friend Ben will. Update you with the progress I shall.
- Step 1: Research
- I have found several sites with examples of how to do this. Here is one: Mame cabinet plans
- Step 2: Acquire the necessary computer hardware
- Ben has the computer and monitor. I have MAME and the ROMs.
- Step 3: Gather the material for the cabinet (currently doing).
I’ve never been a big “gamer” - but I have recently had the opportunity to play the Nintendo Wii Game System, and I must say I am rather impressed. Sure, I’ve played my share of Pong, Combat, Pitfall, Tecmo Bowl, Mario Bros. and the like. However, the Wii is slightly different in that it is physically demanding - for a video game. Even though video games have been considered counterproductive, the Wii has engaged the user in not just hand-eye coordination, but physically standing up, moving around, being active. I see this as a potential benefit for those who are addicted to gaming and are experiencing negative health issues because of it. I applaud Nintendo for bringing a more physical aspect to complement the mental. What do you think?

Since I am in the largest video game purchasing demographic, I am curious as to what your favorite video game ever is. Don’t be ashamed if it’s an oldie like Pong or Pac-Man. You can optionally expound on why. Here, I’ll go first: Metroid: Zero Mission on the GBA. It’s my favorite because it is the best game ever IMO. Metroid is the best series ever IMO. Thanks to a young friend of mine for giving it to me. By the way, I can’t wait to play my brother-in-law’s Wii. He and my sister-in-law were sore from playing the sports games and he’s a P.E. teacher. They better suck it up and get in shape.
Back in college, a friend introduced me to game emulation, which is using your computer to act like or emulate a different game system. For example, I play classic Nintendo games like Zelda and Mike Tyson’s Punchout on my computer. All you need is:
- A computer
- A game controller or keyboard
- ROMs (the digital version of the games like Zelda, etc.)
- Emulators (the program that acts like the game system and plays the ROMs)
You can find ROMs and emulators at emuasylum. You can find more emulators and other emulation information at zophar’s domain. Here are some Nintendo links to get you started: Nintendo emulators, Nintendo ROMs.
